Between Abraham Lincoln and Obafemi Awolowo. Amazing similarities by Augustine Togonu-Bickersteth

THIS IS A PIECE WRITTEN BY AUGUSTINE TOGONU-BICKERSTETH AND PUBLISHED ORIGINALLY ON OBAFEMIAWOLOWOFOUNDATION.COM IN 2009.
Abraham Lincoln and Obafemi Awolowo

SIR: The world would be celebrating 200 years of the birth of Abraham Lincoln and 100 years of the birth of Obafemi Awolowo on February 12 and March 6 respectively. There appears to be strange developments between the United States and Nigeria, particularly as it concerns Abraham Lincoln and Obafemi Awolowo.

Abraham and Obafemi have seven letters each and Lincoln and Awolowo also have seven letters each. Lincoln was born in the ninth year of the 19th Century, 1809 and Awolowo was born in the ninth year of the 20th Century, 1909.

Lincoln and Awolowo were both hired out as labourers when they were young. Lincoln and Awolowo were both lawyers and both practiced up to the Supreme Court. Lincoln and Awolowo were at first skeptical in their religious inclinations, before they were brought to religious conviction.

Lincoln and Awolowo, as adults, both studied Mathematics as a form of mental discipline. Lincoln and Awolowo were both Rosicrucians. Lincoln as a young man loved wrestling and relatedly Awolowo as a young man loved boxing. Lincoln presided over the civil war in his country to be described as the greatest American president and Awolowo was the chief strategist during the Nigerian civil war to be described as the best president Nigeria never had.

Lincoln and Awolowo both have universities named after them, the Lincoln University and the Obafemi Awolowo University. Lincoln as presidential candidate and Awolowo as presidential candidate were both endorsed by the Tribune Newspapers of their respective countries. There is the Lincoln Museum and there is as well the Awolowo Museum.

And what’s all the fuss about Kumuyi’s Wedding?

images (3)

In the past few days, the Cyberspace, especially the Nigerian, had been dominated by the news of the ‘spectacularly’ remarkable, to say the least, June 15 wedding trips of the son, John Kumuyi, of Pastor Kumuyi of Deeper Life Church who wedded a damsel Love Odih (probably as a matter of coincidence rather than incident) . This, many believe has been ‘concocting a storm in the church’.

images (2)images

There had been comparative criticisms of the spectacle of this wedding in relation to other weddings so far held in the church. All the noise is essentially about which bride dresses more modestly (nay divine, spiritual or heaven-bound) on her wedding day and what other items used.

Abortion@OAU: ‘Stubborn’ baby refused to be flushed down a female hostel toilet

IMG-20130619-WA001 (1)-001

It was just dawning and no one would have suspected to find blood stain, talk not of a new born baby, in the toilet of the female hostel in a University. But that’s exactly what happened at Moremi Hostel of the Obafemi Awolowo University in the early hours of Wednesday, 19th of June, 2013.

First, the callous act of a thief, who crept into the said female hostel served as a major concern for most of the residents of the hall as they woke up one after the other. He stole items including laptops and was about breaking into another room when he was sighted and an alarm raised. He vanished. Who knows, he probably was just a harbinger to the heroic baby’s arrival.

“I met an old man in a bus on my way back to the University a few years ago. He looked scraggy, finished but interestingly talk active.

He sat next to me, I told him my dreams. We had a great time.

And when I was about to leave, he said to me “Son, look at me, look at you, I had great plans for today just a few yesterdays (years) ago too.

I was once like you, but don’t be like me.  The only thing that can make a difference between the both of us in a few years lies in what we choose to do with our time, everyday.

He said something profound, he said, “When your youth and your now is a blunder, it leads to an adulthood of struggle and an old age of regret”. Immediately I got off that bus in 2007, I wrote this article below.  Let me share it with you.

THE LEGEND OF EL-NUKAL (The 3rd series) written by Adeojo Kolawole Adeyemi Hannibal

lAkUnLeScReWsOf the countless nobles I’ve been acquainted with,
None has lighten the grey cloud aura around me as this god
Seconds spent on his table is compared to eon

In tandem with the previous dawn

This morning, I sent you three pearls
From the healing hearth of Obanta
The progenitor of the buoyant tribe at the gateway
The nodal towns bathing the atlantic

To buy three gourds of palm wine in ritual libation
One to the territories you have conquered
One to your incoming silver hirsute roof
The last one to the custodian; the undying embers
The fanning light, all this while that has been with you

This morning I break kola into three

“Live your everyday as if it was the last” “Die empty”.

die-empty1-710785

The dying man doesn’t have to worry about anything.

Not even the fears that crumble others and prevent them from stepping out onto those terrains that they love to tread on but who’s fears serve to prevent such a venture.

The worst frame of death to the dying man must (since I’m afraid I’ve never been in that kinda situation before) be child’s play.

His own death he must fear the most because still filled with dreams and hopes (not dying empty but full) is enough to make the ghost of the dead man hunt himself till he probably dies the second time (death in death). download Continue reading “Live your everyday as if it was the last” “Die empty”.

MY QUEST@ The Tipping Point

acada

In the year 2013, I stood at the top, the tipping point of a precipice located somewhere remote, almost from world contact but for the cyberspace that connects.
Almost sloughing off self, almost falling off, I stood giddy from stress and lack of sleep and weak from hunger, protracted. Below is a dagger eagerly waiting for the jugular and behind is a team of aggressors, ready to reach out and push, slowly approaching.

Where did I come from; how did I get here in the first place? Had I dropped off the back of a flying (and dying) bird? Maybe it was that I escaped the crash of an aircraft. Or could it be that I was born here…right here on this precipice, never been anywhere else and without a plan to be anywhere else? Something tells me it was my mother, (aside) the best in the world, who blew me here to safety, with the wind, from the reckless claws of those zombies, who killed baby boys in our ancestors’ time.

The African who believes in Africa. To fly African flags in space…

download (2)

He is just 31 years old and he already heads a vast business empire that he built from scratch. His name is Ashish Thakkar and he’s the founder of the pan-African multi-sector business conglomerate Mara Group.

Here on the board of lAkUnLeScReWs, we present you his words, exclusively especially as they touch on Africa and her brewing greatness.

“Money should never be a measurement for anything.”

“I like to see myself as an entrepreneur that’s being disruptive — I like to be the underdog in a lot of cases,” “It’s all about how you go about it; but one thing I definitely don’t want to be known as is as ‘Africa’s youngest billionaire.'”

“Thakkar is gearing up to become the first ever East African in space, proudly representing the region in the Virgin Galactic program, which offers paying customers the opportunity to travel beyond the Earth’s atmosphere.” – CNN

Consequent upon the above, he said…

“I’m taking quite a few of flags into space, as a way to kind of send a strong message that ‘look, we as Africa have the vision and the ability as well.”

“It’s something that started off for fun and it’s actually turned out to be something quite nice where we can send a strong message to say, ‘we’re coming, we’re going to mark our space in that territory too.”

“The idea initially was to do it for the two months during my summer holiday.” Thakkar.” And when school started again I conveniently didn’t tell my parents that it did, and obviously they figured me out in a week.”download Continue reading The African who believes in Africa. “Niger Delta Militant – N75,000 per month.

Boko Haram – N100,000 per month.

NYSC – N19,800 per month.

Minimum wage for Civil Service – N18,900 per month.
